Black Bear
Hunting bears is a lot of fun, it’s all spot and stalk. It’s a thrill, challenging ourselves, with hearts pounding, with how close we can get for a good clean shot. The primary colour is black; however, a few coloured ones have been spotted. There are 7’ bears, if one is patient enough to wait, average is 6.5’. Since the logging has increased, it has opened more country, increasing the daily bear count. During the spring hunts, bears are eating the fresh green grass growing along the roads. That is how we hunt them, driving the roads and glassing the clear cuts where any new grass is growing. During the fall hunts, bears can be anywhere, eating the many blueberries or huckleberries, walking along the road, or grubbing in the clear cuts. They come from nowhere and go nowhere.
