Black Bear

Bear hunting here is conducted entirely by spot and stalk, offering an exciting and highly engaging challenge. Few experiences match the adrenaline of closing the distance for a clean shot, with each stalk testing patience, judgment, and skill. Most bears are black in colour, though a few colour-phase bears are seen from time to time. Mature bears can reach 7 feet, while the average bear measures approximately 6.5 feet. Increased logging activity has opened more country, creating additional habitat and improving daily bear sightings. In the spring, bears are often found feeding on fresh green grass along roads and in clearcuts, making these areas especially productive for glassing and road-based hunting. Fall hunts present a different opportunity, as bears may be found feeding on blueberries and huckleberries, traveling roads, or grubbing through clearcuts—appearing suddenly and disappearing just as quickly.
