Canadian Moose

The Cariboo Mountains are diverse in landscape, from many lakes, alpine meadows, old forests, and swamps. Throughout any of these places’ moose can be found. The hunt is during the rut, first ten days of October, the average is 45”. Some years a late October hunt is also offered with good success. Several different methods are used, tower blinds over mineral licks, calling in high alpine meadows and clearcuts, glassing clear cuts from advantage points and hunting along the Upper Matthew River of Ghost Lake. Hunters will be placed in different locations keeping no more than one to two people in a certain area at the same time. Walking, sitting, boating, 4×4, may all be used. And of course, cow or bull calling is done to lure that love sick bull.

Cameron Ridge Bungalows
This is the main camp, with comfortable cabins, kitchen, shower house and generated power. There are tower blinds over meadows and mineral licks to hunt from, glassing the numerous clear cuts from vantage spots, and checking out the numerous little meadows are some of the methods used for a successful hunt. Hunting is by 4×4, walking and sitting.

Ghost Lake
A 15’ Jon Boat with a 25 hsp Tahatsu jet is used to hunt the upper Matthew River. It is a gem of a place with great locations along the river to hunt. The cabins at Ghost Lake are comfortable and only accessible by boat. If your moose hunt is finished early, it’s time to pick up that fishing rod and check out the lake! The rainbow fish are plentiful and delicious.

Tasse Lake
This is the most southern location and one of two new places to hunt. There is a mineral lick for the moose to enjoy, meadows close by and heavy timber around the lake. This location is during the rut as well as late October as it’s lower in elevation. Wall tents with a floor and real beds will be used as camp, close to the lake so you can get up in the morning and shoot your moose before breakfast.

Grain Creek
In 2021 a fire destroyed a lot of the timber along the Upper Grain Creek. After three years the area is recovering and moose especially love the new vegetation that has since grown, which makes this a great place to hunt during the rut. Wall tents with floors and real beds are used as camp. 4×4, walking, calling, and glassing are the methods used to hunt here. This area hasn’t been hunted in the past, but all the signs are there for a great and successful moose hunt.
