Mountain Goat
The Cariboo Mountains hold one of British Columbia’s strongest Mountain Goat populations, with mature billies averaging 9.5”. Thanks to decades of minimal hunting pressure — rarely more than five hunters booked per season — our territory continues to produce exceptional goats. A 2022 government survey confirmed what we already knew: this region is thriving with healthy, sustainable goat numbers.
Mountain goat hunting is famously demanding. As the saying goes, “goats look down on sheep.” Being in good physical condition is essential, as the terrain is steep, rugged, and unforgiving — but the rewards are unmatched.
During your hunt, you’ll spike camp in true wilderness country, with elevations reaching up to 7,000 feet. Expect long hours behind the glass; goats can be difficult to spot, and quality optics make a real difference. Most shots average around 300 yards, though you should be confident shooting out to 500 yards when closing the distance isn’t possible.
Goat hunting is tough, physical work — but when you finally take your billy, every step becomes worth it. You’ll leave the mountains with a trophy to be proud of and memories your family will talk about for generations.
